Accommodation Assistant - Level 3

Rate of pay: $12.00/hour

Work location: Student Disability Services

What you will learn

You can expect to learn skills such as time management, conflict resolution, balancing priorities, managing finances, interpersonal communication, customer service experience, and working with people from diverse backgrounds and working as part of a team.  Additionally, this role will develop your ability to supervise and teach other student, and increase your competent decision making skills. Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.

Basic job function

Assist with the provision of academic accommodations approved through Student Disability Services.


  • Perform simple clerical duties such as copying, scanning and filing.
  • Assist in data entry.
  • Perform check-in desk duties.
  • Answer phones and take messages.
  • Proctor exams.
  • Communicate daily with faculty, staff and/or students.
  • May assist students and faculty in understanding the accommodation process
  • Convert media to an accessible format.
  • Exhibit behavior expected of a professional and respect confidential information.
  • Attend staff meetings and professional development trainings as scheduled by supervisor or department.
  • Perform duties of Functional Student Supervisor position
    • Respond to emails in professional manner
    • Answer phone calls for exam services
    • Solve complicated exam and scheduling problems
    • Work accurately and independently


  • Registered UI student in good academic standing.
  • Work study preferred, but not required.
  • Good communication skills are necessary.
  • Preference given to first and/or second year students able to make a minimum one-year commitment.
  • Must be punctual and dependable.
  • Demonstrated team player with positive attitude.
  • Ability to finish assigned tasks in an orderly fashion.
  • Working experience with computer systems, preferably Microsoft Office .
  • Demonstrate ability to train new employees.
  • Demonstrate mastery of software used by either AMS or AES, including Adobe Professional, Read .and Write Gold, computer.
