Climbing Wall Manager

Rate of pay: $10.00/hour

Work location: Campus Recreation & Wellness Center

Basic job function

Oversee day to day management of the Campus Recreation & Wellness Center (CRWC) Climbing Wall. Position is responsible for supervision, risk management and climbing instruction.  Work closely with climbing wall student staff and Assistant Director.  This position requires a mature individual with good communication and leadership skills.  

Responsibilities

  • Check in climbers, supervise the wall, and arrange and instruct climbing lessons and events.
  • Administer safety checks, risk management control, and maintain a safe climbing area.
  • Assist with LLS climbing classes
  • Enforces facility policies and procedures (accessibility issues, rules of activity).
  • Carries out security measures (proper opening and closing duties, accountability for climbing area, equipment handling etc.).
  • Responds to all building emergencies (Accidents/Injuries, Inclement Weather, etc)
  • Assist in the training, supervision and evaluation of entry-level student climbing wall staff as well as student supervisors.  Coordinate staff scheduling 
  • Provides support for special events, as needed.
  • Ensures outstanding customer service.
  • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, functional and marketable facility.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Previous employment with the Department of Recreational Services.
  • Lead Climbing Experience Required
  • Outstanding customer service skills; competent computer and audio-visual skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Mandatory attendance at monthly staff meetings.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and good judgment.
  • A passion for the outdoors!
