Buying Group Assistant - Course Materials - Hawk Shop

Rate of pay: $10.10/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Assist Associate Director of Course Materials in inventory control, data base maintenance, order placement, Faculty and student communication, duties including assisting in returns, rental, and basic course material procurement.


  • Assist in verifying courseware adoption, check information in MyUI, and confirm information via email to faculty.
  • Process data entry. Assist in adding and updating information dealing with course materials.
  • Create and prepare spreadsheets with course lists, want lists, adoptions, and rental
  • Assist in maintaining markdowns/markups, wholesale shipments, maintaining chargebacks, and maintaining purchase orders.
  • Review Web backorder reports, term course list and report merchandise status
  • Assist buying group in preparing and entering re-orders of designated product.
  • Assist entering course material information as needed.
  • Assist in preparation and participate course material special events (ie. Orientation, Kick-off, etc.)
  • Maintain working relationships with Retail Operations, Administrative Services Group and Marketing and design.
  • Must be able to work at all UBS/Hawk Shop locations as needed.
  • Other related duties as assigned by Course Material staff.


  • Basic working knowledge of Microsoft Excel including work with formulas in existing spreadsheets. Prefer ability to create spreadsheets using templates and worksheets, create and work with formulas and ability to import and export data.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Ability to lift 25 pounds.
  • Retail experience desirable.

  • IMU Student Orientation.
  • IMU Emergency Response Staff.
  • Cash Handling.
  • Security Awareness.
