Cashier Assistant

Rate of pay: $10.40/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Performs various tasks involved with maintaining cash control.  Demonstrate a high level of customer service, interpersonal communications skills, problem solving, organization, and self-management skills.


  • Provide customer service in a professional manner.
  • Accurately perform deposit transactions for various student organizations on campus.
  • Identify student needs and assist with completion of Report of Money Received Form.
  • Verify student organization deposit amounts.
  • Run tapes of checks.
  • Count currency and loose change.
  • Enter deposits into spreadsheets.
  • Balance on-hand cash and cash equivalents to daily spreadsheet.
  • Accurately perform deposit transactions for Dance Marathon – Dancer Donations
  • Identify student needs and assist students with completion of Dancer Deposit forms.
  • Verify Dancer Deposit amounts.
  • Run tapes of checks.
  • Count currency and loose change.
  • Create batches of deposits for Dance Marathon Committee.
  • Responsible for managing and balancing cash inventory.
  • Create advances for student organization groups.
  • Prepare accounting reports daily.
  • Ability to work within established cash handling guidelines set forth by the University of Iowa.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and individually.
  • Perform special projects as assigned by management team.
  • May provide back-up support to IMU money room operations when needed.
  • Participate in Iowa Grow conversations.


  • Must be proficient in counting cash, previous cash handling experience required.
  • Previous 10-key experience preferred.
  • Basic computer skills required.
