Computer Technician

Rate of pay: $13.50/hour

Work location: Iowa Hawk Shop - Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

To assist in diagnosing, upgrading, and repairing Apple computers for the Tech Connection Apple Service Center.

Responsibilities

  • Assist in troubleshooting/diagnosing Apple hardware issues.
  • Assist in upgrading, and repairing Apple hardware.
  • Assist in troubleshooting/diagnosing Apple OSX issues.
  • Assist in troubleshooting/diagnosing Apple OSX application software issues.
  • Create and manage repair jobs in service request ticket software and Appleā€™s repair database.
  • Assist in maintaining equipment and parts inventory.
  • Complete and maintain assigned Apple certification and sales training.
  • Assist in training Tech Connection student staff on service center procedures.
  • Multi-tasking:  Must be able to assist customers by answering technical questions, directing individuals to appropriate areas of the store, and answering phone inquiries at the same time.
  • Interpret and follow store procedures and policies, particularly as they apply to servicing hardware and software.
  • Provide assistance to customers in answering technical questions, checking in/out hardware, and troubleshooting hardware/software issues.
  • Provide assistance to customers by operating the cash register to facilitate payment of service fees.
  • Assist in managing inventory by helping with merchandise set up, checking back stock, restocking taking inventory, and managing the product storage.
  • Participate in keeping Service Center retail space presentable by cleaning and straightening as needed.
  • Participate in assisting other parts of the Tech Connection including operating cash register, helping guide customers to products, answering questions about product and providing technical expertise.

Qualifications

  • Previous work as Assistant Services Technician or extensive computer diagnostic experience.
  • Experience working in a retail environment for at least 6 months preferred.
  • Proven experience with OS X troubleshooting.
  • Good communication and organizational skills.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • Apple Certification; Technician Assistant & Apple Certified Mac Technician or ability to obtain upon hire.
