Lead Cashier

Rate of pay: $10.40/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Participate in performing cashier assistant responsibilities as well as provide direction to assigned staff.  Assist with other clerical/bookkeeping duties as needed.


  • Assist with taking cash inventory which includes counting, processing and packing of money bags, running tapes of forms of payment, process loose change, prepare report on each bag, enter on computer, and ensure the cash, computer and reports balance.
  • Prepare deposit for daily receipts which include processing checks, M/C, VISA, etc.
  • Assist with setting out advances for the next day and also in determining advances four to six weeks ahead.
  • Assist with ensuring the all money is properly stored and secured.
  • Assist with running associated reports as needed.
  • Assist with the management of the vending machines by collecting money and processing as needed.
  • Assist with answering the phone and taking messages for the department.
  • File the accounts payable paperwork on a routine basis.
  • Assist with training, supervising, and answering questions of cashier assistants.
  • Participate in Iowa Grow conversations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Previous cash handling experience required.
  • Experience or demonstrated ability to supervise or direct the work of others is necessary.
  • Must be dependable and conscientious.
  • Experience with 10 key adding machine.
  • Business student preferred.
