Housekeeping Manager

Rate of pay: $10.70/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

You can expect to learn skills such as time management, conflict resolution, balancing priorities, managing finances, interpersonal communication, customer service experience, and working with people from diverse backgrounds and working as part of a team.  Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.

Basic job function

Responsible for the coordination, supervision and direction of the work activities performed by housekeeping staff in the absence of the Housekeeping Custodian II (CII) or Housekeeping supervisor.


  • Open and prepare Housekeeping office.
  • Prepare and assign work assignments.
  • Update computer on room status.
  • Responsible for inspecting results to ensure all work is completed satisfactorily.
  • Record and put away lost and found articles.
  • Maintain close communications with front desk.
  • Report or request repair of maintenance issues.
  • Handle guest complaints, questions or needs
  • Clean assigned rooms.
  • Stock carts.
  • Complete tasks assigned by CII or Housekeeping supervisor.
  • Train new student staff.
  • Sort laundry, empty trash, and close office at the end of the day.
  • Turn in Housekeeping Report and key log at the front desk.
  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Must be available days and weekends.
  • Experience and Knowledge of Iowa Housekeeping procedures and policies necessary.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, organization, communication and interpersonal skills is necessary.
  • Good writing skills necessary.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Demonstrated good judgment in decision making necessary.
  • May require heavy lifting (50 lb.).
  • Some supervisory experience or leadership experience is desired.
  • Applicants may be subject to a criminal background check.
