Welcome Center Student Manager

Rate of pay: $10.70/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Assist with development, maintenance, and delivery of all services offered by the Welcome Center.  Provide functional supervision to the Customer Service Representatives.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the training and supervising of Customer Service Representatives.
  • Complies with all UI cash handling operations and procedures
  • Monitors daily operations in compliance with Welcome Center policies and procedures.
  • Oversees daily routine operations in the absence of the full-time manager.
  • Authorizes cash refunds and credit for merchandise and ticket returns
  • Operates and assists in the maintenance of all equipment including the Ticketmaster system.
  • Assists with staffing coverage as required during interim and peek sales times.
  • Assists with the preparation of ticket sales events for student organizations.
  • Resolves customer service issues in the absence of the manager
  • Helps maintain unit information databases, social media, printed materials, and training materials.
  • Represent the IMU and the University to the public in a respectful, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Look for opportunities to welcome guests and provide assistance.
  • Be observant of people and of the facility; make note of, and respond to any concerns.
  • Project a positive and helpful attitude.
  • Serve as a central point of communication for the operations and services of the IMU.
  • Report any safety or facility issues immediately to appropriate personnel.
  • Report any program, department, University, or state policy concerns .immediately to appropriate personnel.
  • Review the daily Activity Schedule and be aware of all events occurring during your shift; anticipate needs.
  • Complete appropriate forms as necessary.
  • Attend staff meetings, trainings, and in-services.
  • Sell tickets using the cash register and cash boxes.
  • Gather information to maintain information resources.
  • Perform routine clerical tasks to maintain operations and services.
  • Perform special projects as assigned.
  • Creates student schedules.
  • Completes other duties and projects as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Registered University of Iowa student; work-study preferred.
  • Cashier experience required.
  • Ability to respond effectively to customer concerns in a positive manner.
  • Effective communication, problem solving, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to create and maintain a professional and safe environment.
  • Ability to uphold departmental policies in stressful situations.
  • Ability to recognize risks and implement departmental risk management procedures.
  • Ability to respond calmly to emergencies in the building.
  • Previous work experience in the IMU and/or Welcome Center.
