Rate of pay: $10.00/hour

Work location: Various Recreational Services Facilities

You can expect to learn skills such as communicating with patrons of all ages and skill levels, swim etiquette, responsibility and accountability, and working with people from diverse backgrounds as well as part of a team.  Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.

Basic job function

To assist in the operation of the Intramural Sports program through officiating selected Intramural Sports events.  These positions require a mature individual with good communication, leadership, and conflict management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Officiates Intramural Sports events according to program and sport rules and mechanics.
  • Learns and enforces sport rules and program policies and procedures.
  • Reports to supervisor all emergencies (accidents/injuries, inclement weather, etc).
  • Handles questions, concerns, and complaints of participants.
  • Provides support for special needs or events, as needed.
  • Ensures outstanding customer service.
  • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Completion of availability through scheduling website.
  • Performs scorekeeping responsibilities at events according to program and sport rules and mechanics.
  • Performs other work as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Mandatory attendance of required officials meetings.
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Ability to work in inclement weather (rain or hot/cold conditions).
  • Ability to remain calm and make good decisions during high pressure situations.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to work cooperatively with others.

Work hours

  • Ability to accommodate a work schedule that includes evenings and weekends.
