OLSCE - Community Space Office Assistant

Rate of pay: $10.10/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Serve as a representative of the Office of Leadership, Service, and Civic Engagement and assist in the daily operations administered by the Community Space in 145 Iowa Memorial Union.


  • Develop an understanding of leadership, service, and civic engagement opportunities in the Division of Student Life and at the institution.
  • Interact with a variety of University faculty, staff, students, community partners and guests.
  • Perform receptionist work in a friendly manner, such as answering phone calls and responding to customers in person or via e-mail. Handle guests’ needs personally or refers to others as needed.
  • Perform opening and closing duties, as needed.
  • Assist in scheduling meetings.
  • Review and manage reservations requests for 145 IMU through Checkout@Iowa.
  • Manage SWIPE machine, ensuring that information is gathered from each client of 145 IMU.
  • Maintain confidential information.
  • Participate in trainings and meetings as assigned.
  • Assist with other project work as assigned throughout the year such as printing, ordering, and organizing materials, generating reports, managing social media, and creating content for websites and emails.


  • Registered UI student.
  • Must be able to work 5 - 10 hours per week.
  • Superior communication skills are required.
  • Ability to work independently and be self-motivated.
  • Ability to organize and juggle multiple tasks & ability to work independently.
