Maintenance Supervisor

Rate of pay: $9.50/hour

Work location: Campus Recreation & Wellness Center, Field House, and Hawkeye Tennis Recreation Complex

Basic job function

To assist in the day to day maintenance of all Recreational Services facilities, equipment and grounds.  This position requires a mature individual with good communications and leadership skills.  This position will assist with scheduling and supervising Maintenance Assistants.


  • Assist in the supervision of the Maintenance Assistants.
  • Assist with preventative maintenance and general repair of fitness equipment including prescribed routine cleaning and inspection of equipment.
  • Assist with event set-up and tear down or other needed assistance.
  • Assist with outdoor field and grounds maintenance responsibilities.
  • Assist with locker maintenance.
  • Knowledge of all policies and procedures of the facilities.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, functional and marketable environment.
  • Keep facilities in excellent condition while also providing great customer service to our members.
  • Works cooperatively with other areas of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Maintaining all required records of work orders and scheduled maintenance.
  • Maintain a clean and orderly service area, keeping tools and supplies in proper place.
  • Proper and safe use of tools for repair of equipment.
  • Mandatory attendance at training meetings.
  • Performs other work as assigned.


  • One year experience as Recreational Services Maintenance Assistant
  • Outstanding customer service skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to interact with diverse groups through a variety of situations.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.
  • Mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to work breaks and holidays preferred.

Training requirements

  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet UI Fleet Services requirements, preferred.
