MNRA Maintenance Assistant

Rate of pay: $8.50/hour

Work location: Macbride Nature Recreation Area - 2095 Mehaffey Bridge Rd. NE Solon, IA

Basic job function

To assist in the day to day maintenance of the Macbride Nature Recreation Area (MNRA) for the benefit of all users, including mowing grass, trimming trees, and maintaining trail systems.   


  • Assistant MNRA maintenance personnel as needed.
  • Mow and trim open spaces.
  • Collect and dispose of garbage.
  • Trim, cut and remove trees.
  • Maintain trail system.
  • Clean and maintain facilities.
  • Conduct minor vehicle/equipment maintenance (oil change, fuses, belts, grease).
  • Ensures outstanding customer service for users they come in contact with.
  • Works cooperatively with other area of the department to achieve established goals.
  • Promotes a safe, clean, functional and marketable facility.
  • Conduct minor facility repairs.
  • Snow removal.
  • Performs other work as assigned.


  • Ability to drive and operate machinery including chain saws, tractors, and mowers.
  • Ability to use independent judgment when needed.
  • Strong problem-solving skills.

Training requirements

  • Criminal Background Check upon hire
  • CPR/AED/ First Aid  Certification
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Recreational Service Orientation
  • Complete the following training: Personal Protective Equipment, Machine Guarding, GHS Labels & SDS’s, Tool Safety, Safe Trailering, Ladders, Hearing Conservation, Forklifts, and Cash Handling.
