Student Assistant Manager

Rate of pay: $13.50/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Act as the manager on duty during the times when the General Manager is unavailable. Attend to day to day operations of the hotel operation as directed.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently when General Manger is out of the office.
  • Assist in creating and managing the front desk schedule.
  • Understand and attend to the keycard and lock system with directions from Housekeeping Manager.
  • Assist with understanding and attending to the Micros system, server, and credit cards.
  • Assist with understanding and attending to the billing systems and refunding of credit cards.
  • Enter group block reservations into the PMS, and understand attrition agreements and pricing in order to quote group rates to potential guests.
  • Assist with understanding accounts receivable and be able to look up balances and run statements.
  • Work flexible hours during the week and on weekends.
  • Understand how to run night audit.
  • Attend to customer service issues as needed in a timely and professional manner.
  • Provide direct supervision to other hotel staff as needed.
  • Understand breakfast room operations.
  • Perform housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Attend management meeting as assigned.
  • Understand and execute emergency procedures as needed and function as Manager on Duty responding to inquiries, emergencies, and concerns from staff, public, and other users of the IMU facility.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Registered UI student.
  • Six months to one year experience as an Iowa House desk clerk.
  • Proficiency with computer applications.
  • Demonstrated professionalism and judgement.
