Catering Delivery Driver Manager

Rate of pay: $11.56/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union

Basic job function

Responsible for the daily operations of area including training and supervisory responsibilities. Participate in the delivery and pick up of catering orders as scheduled. Make independent decisions and exercise good judgment in the absence of a full-time supervisor.


  • Gather and pack all food and equipment necessary for delivery event.
  • Deliver food, beverages, and equipment to designated areas.
  • Set-up and pick-up of catering events as scheduled.
  • Load and unload delivery vans and trucks.
  • Respond to requests and inquiries from customers in a courteous manner.
  • Record information for billing and production.
  • Stock and clean work areas and related equipment.
  • Return dishes, utensils, etc. to the kitchen for cleaning.
  • Cover, label, and store food in proper storage area following service period.
  • Stay on time and follow delivery and cart schedule.
  • Direct and participate in daily operation of catering deliveries including opening and closing responsibilities.
  • Assist in organizing work schedules to assure that all work assignments are covered, policies and procedures are followed and concerns are brought to the supervisor’s attention.
  • Direct and assist in cleaning and sanitation of work area to ensure that equipment is properly returned, area is clean, and all items are put away and secured at the close of shift.
  • Train, direct and inspect the work of student staff. Provide leadership and serve as a professional role model.
  • Maintain responsibility for delivery, pick-up, and security of alcoholic beverages.
  • Responsible for securing money bags and keys within established procedures.
  • Make decisions in emergency situations.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.


  • Maintain the University Fleet Safety Program driving standards.
  • Enrolled as a student at the University of Iowa (during academic year).
  • Must be 18 years of age.
  • Must be able to move up to 40 lbs.
  • Must be able to work evenings, early mornings, and weekends and be flexible from week to week.
  • Excellent communication skills (verbal and written) and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population.
  • Demonstrated commitment to GREAT customer service.
  • Previous supervisory experience preferred.
  • Minimum of one semester with University Catering or equivalent experience.
  • Must be able to meet and maintain ServSafe & Cash Handling training requirements per UI and departmental policies and procedures.
