Circuit Breaker Re-Setter

Rate of pay: $25 daily Monday – Friday, $50 daily Saturdays, Sundays, and University Holidays.

Work location: Varies by Location

You can expect to learn skills such as time management, conflict resolution, balancing priorities, attention to detail, interpersonal communication, customer service experience, and working with people from diverse backgrounds and working as part of a team. Although your job in the Division of Student Life may not be directly related to your future profession, the skills you learn here will help you in your chosen career path and give you valuable work experience to strengthen your resume.

Basic job function

Reset circuit breakers in the residence hall outside of maintenance staff’s normal working hours.


  • Respond courteously and promptly to calls for resetting circuit breakers in the residence halls during scheduled on-call hours.
  • Available continuously during scheduled on-call hours.
  • Wear proper personal protective equipment as required when re-setting breakers.
  • Attend occasional training and scheduled meetings.
  • May be required to work during academic breaks (summer, winter, Thanksgiving and spring) and holidays.


  • Must be dependable and reliable.
  • Able to respond to calls within 30 minutes
  • Registered as University of Iowa student (during academic year).
  • Must pass criminal background check.
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to meet and maintain the University Fleet Safety Program driving standard.

Work hours

Must be available for weekly on call schedule from Monday to Monday as outlined below:

      • Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday  4:30 PM – 8:00 AM the next morning
      • Friday 4:30 PM – 8:00 AM Saturday
      • Saturday 8:00 AM – 8:00 AM  Sunday
      • Sunday 8:00 AM – 8:00 AM  Monday
