Cold Food Cook - IMU Kitchen

Rate of pay: $9.50/hour

Work location: Iowa Memorial Union Kitchen

Basic job function

Perform various tasks including the preparation, plating and cooking of food.  Organize, cleaning and sanitation which support the operations of a large-scale food service operation.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare cold food including cooking, baking, recipe reading, measuring, and cutting
  • Work with kitchen staff on catering and special events
  • Prepare food trays and displays
  • Assist in restocking kitchen and keep area organized
  • Work in dish area as needed including scraping, cleaning and putting away dishes
  • Clean and sanitize tables and other surfaces.  Follow proper sanitation procedures including sweeping and mopping
  • Respond to customer inquiries or problems in a courteous manner
  • Demonstrate civil and respectful interactions with others
  • Dress in proper work attire per department guidelines
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Enrolled as student at the University of Iowa(during academic year)
  • Demonstrated commitment to GREAT customer service
  • Must be a motivated self-starter and able to complete tasks in a timely manner with minimal supervision
  • Good communication skills (written and verbal) and be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population
  • Must be dependable and reliable
  • Must be able to work through finals week
  • Must be able to move up to 20 pounds and stand for long periods of time
  • Must be able to handle meat products
