Project and Maintenance Assistant

Rate of pay: $13.04/hour

Work location: Currier Residence Hall

Basic job function

Assist with project management services as it relates to the day-to-day operations of the UH&D Maintenance Office.


  • Assist with the planning, organization, monitoring and control of capital projects in an effort to ensure efficient utilization of resources and to achieve project objectives. 
  • Assist with Construction Project Managers with multiple projects, as needed.
  • Assist with the application of, knowledge of and use of the proper processes and practices in relationship to contractual agreements. 
  • Answer phone and assist callers in a courteous manner.
  • Some knowledge of and / or understanding of factors that influence design and construction.
  • Assist with project coordination among internal and external participants.
  • Assist team members with assignments in order to meet specific outcomes. 
  • Utilize effective communication concepts, tools and techniques in order to effectively transmit, receive and accurately interpret ideas, information and the needs of the team.
  • Assist with the management of time and resources in order to meet team goals and assignments.
  • Filing.
  • Other maintenance duties as assigned.


  • Enrolled as a student at The University of Iowa. 
  • Familiarity with construction work processes and / or Engineering practices.
  • Excellent communication (verbal and written) and ability to be positive and respectful in working with a diverse population.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Reasonable experience in using computers, including Word, Excel, and email.
  • Reasonable experience in handling multiple assignments, conflicting demands or priorities.
  • Must successfully complete criminal background check.
